BURLESQUE MUSIC

Summer’s heating up, and so is the music on the next – very special – edition of ‘Vintage Favourites’. There’s a branch of show business called ‘Burlesque’ that’s been around forever; grew out of vaudeville and onto Broadway stages, nightclubs and lounges, and the ‘silver screen’. Legendary names like Josephine Baker and Gypsy Rose Lee, led to Mae West, Lily St. Cyr, Tempest Storm, Eartha Kitt and Cher.

That familiar bump-and-grind music has also evolved. Barbara Stanwyck once said, we’ll take it from ‘the e-string to the g-string’ … and I’ll take it back to the music, and some amazing behind-the-scenes stories shared by my special guest – my daughter – Laura Desiree, a professional burlesque performer who’s traveled the world, entertaining the stages of Paris, Berlin, New York and LA.

Celebrating a century of Burlesque this Sunday – 61 years to the week, when the iconic ‘Stripper’ was #1 on the pop charts for orchestra leader David Rose.

Plus: a birthday salute to Canada’s guitar wizard David Wilcox, and our first-hour feature: ‘Our Sunday Best – A Century of #1 Hits’ taking us from classic cartoon songs that were chart-toppers in the 1930s and 40s, to the watershed moment in popular music when ‘Rock Around the Clock’ became the first #1 charting rock’n’roll song. Plus The Beach Boys, Andy Gibb and ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ ‘Every Breath You Take’ by The Police.

Please join us this Sunday from 2:00 to 4:30 for a unique edition of ‘Vintage Favourites’.
