TINA TURNER – IN MEMORIAM

‘The Queen of Rock’n’Roll is Dead, Long Live Her Music !’  A most incredible life came to an unexpected end May 24th, when Tina Turner died. It seemed she was unstoppable, a force of nature, and an inspiration to all. Survival and willpower, belief and endurance, confidence and reinvention all come to mind – along with her amazing music, of course – whenever we think of Tina.

I’ve gathered ten of her best songs – from her first hit with Ike back in 1960, through her classic ‘Proud Mary’ and the autobiographical ‘Nutbush City Limits’; her amazing comeback hits of the mid-80s, a stunning live performance during her 50th anniversary farewell tour, and a song you might not know – (but I’m sure you will love) – to wrap the feature.

Please join me for this fond farewell: ‘Tina Turner – In Memoriam‘ this Sunday (June 18th) at 3pm.  I’ll wrap up the show with a birthday salute to Anne Murray. And, the show’s first hour (2-3pm.) is always ‘Our Sunday Best – A Century of #1 Hits‘ taking us on a ‘sentimental journey’ from the 1930s and 40s, through the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, with the #1 song from this week in those decades: Doris Day to Beatles and Rick Astley too!

Plus ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ ‘Medley’ – that’s the short-form title to what was the longest-titled song to ever hit #1 – by The Stars on 45. That’s all on the next ‘Vintage Favourites’ this Sunday 2:00 – 4:30pm. I hope you’ll join me.
