Willie Nelson is one of music’s all-time greats and, as he’s turning 90 next week, I couldn’t resist a six-decade career retrospective.  I’ll tell you his story and play songs from his earliest successes writing for others, to his reinvention as an ‘outlaw’, the many duet recordings he’s been part of, and I’ll conclude with an amazing track from his most recent Grammy-winning work just last year.  That’s eleven great songs from 1962 through 2022.
This week would have also marked a milestone birthday for one of our Canadian legends – the late Bobby Curtola would be 80, were he still alive. I’ll feature a half-hour of his songs. And there’s also the show’s first-hour feature: ‘Our Sunday Best – A Century of #1 Hits‘, spotlighting #1 songs from this week in 1922, ’42, ’52, ’62, ’72 and 1992. Plus, the fascinating ‘Story Behind the Song‘ ‘Amazing Grace’ – from a former slave-ship captain seeking redemption, to becoming a worldwide hymn – and a #1 hit song as well.
I hope you can join me for our Sunday afternoon listening tradition since 2007 – ‘Vintage Favourites’ from 2:00 to 4:30.
