I’ve got a real treat for movie AND music fans as we salute the 100th anniversary of Hollywood’s legendary Warner Brothers studio next week. I’ve put together a playlist of a dozen songs from the ‘talking picture’ landmark ‘The Jazz Singer’ and Bogie’s ‘Casablanca’, to ‘The Exorcist’, ‘Batman’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’. From Jolson to Sinatra, Harry Connick to Annie Lennox – a fascinating story of classic films and wonderful songs. You bring the popcorn, and I’ll bring the music – we’ll see the movies in our minds.
Plus: a salute to Vancouver artists as we mark that west coast city’s establishment April 6th, 1886. And our first-hour feature: ‘Our Sunday Best – A Century of #1 Hits‘ takes us from Cab Calloway’s 1931 classic ‘Minnie the Moocher’, through big band swing, early 50s crooners, doo wop, sweet Motown soul, British glam-rock and ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ ‘Rapture‘ – Blondie’s historic mash-up of new wave with rap. What a ride – join me this Sunday for ‘Vintage Favourites’ between 2:00 and 4:30pm.
