Our five-part series on ‘The Biggest Hits of a Half-Century‘ featured the top song of every year between 1940 and 1989 – and this Sunday (Oct.23) we head into the final chapter – the 1980s.  Everyone has a favourite era and I know some listeners really loved the earlier 1940s and ’50s, while others enjoyed the 60s and 70s. Now it’s time for the Eighties – with Kenny Rogers and Lionel Richie, Madonna, George Michael and The Police … and five others who dominated the music charts of that decade. It’s been a fun ride through a half-century of the biggest of ‘big hits’ – so, please join me for this finale.
Plus: a big birthday salute to Ed Robertson of The Barenaked Ladies, with a half-hour of their hits. And in the show’s first hour – ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘ will remember that day a young Bruce Springsteen found himself on the cover of the two newsmagazines – TIME and Newsweek; exciting live tracks from James Brown and Fats Domino, and ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ ‘My Ding-a-ling’ – Chuck Berry’s first and only #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 – 50 years ago this week.  I hope you’ll tune in this Sunday at 2pm.
