ABBA’s 50th ANNIVERSARY EDITION

ABBA fans have been ecstatic over two news items in recent weeks. The group’s first studio album in four decades: ‘Voyage’ is coming out November 5th, and, after having given their ‘final show’ back in 1982, ABBA announced a return to the performance stage – in a most unusual way.  They’ll be using state-of-the-art ‘motion-capture’ technology to present avatars – or ‘ABBA-tars’ – of themselves on the giant stage of a new, purpose-built ‘ABBA Arena’ in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. I’ll get into more details in my show, along with playing several of ABBA’s most famous hits, as well as their first recording back in 1972, and a couple tracks from their brand new album. This is a must-hear edition of ‘Vintage Favourites’ for ABBA fans.

As always there’s more variety to speak of: in the show’s first hour (2-3pm.), ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘ will remember two of the most famous love-affairs in the music world: Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner, and John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Both those couples were in the headline this week in years past.  It’s a different affair that Rod Stewart sang about in his classic ‘Maggie May‘ – now marking its 50th anniversary on the chart-tops.  I’ll tell you ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ that launched Stewart’s solo career, and I’ll play you an alternate version of ‘Maggie May‘, with completely different lyrics; you might call them ‘the original working lyrics’.

In our final half-hour (4:00 – 4:30), I’ll salute the late great Leonard Cohen on the 5th anniversary of his death in 2016.  I hope you’ll join me for another variety-packed edition of ‘Vintage Favourites’ this Sunday (Nov. 7th).
