JUNO AWARDS 50th ANNIVERSARY

The epitome of excellence in Canadian music is the Juno Award, and this year marks the 50th anniversary of The Juno.  That calls for a special edition of ‘Vintage Favourites’ that digs into several fascinating questions, like: who won the first Junos, who’s won the most Junos, and what legendary Canadian band never won the Juno ? I’ll also reveal the earliest winners of the awards that came before The Junos – they were called ‘The RPM Awards’ back in the mid-60s.
This is also a very active week in music history, as we look back to ‘This Week in Zoomer Music’ (2-3pm.). Among the stories and the songs: the Beatles’ audition at Abbey Road, and the ultra rare, first version of ‘Love Me Do‘ – recorded with their first drummer, Pete Best. Rod Stewart’s now-50 year old classic song, and his knighting 5 years ago this week. Glen Campbell’s last song, titled, appropriately ‘Adios‘. Tom Jones and Prince shared the same birthday, and I’ll play Tom’s cover of a Prince song. And that Bowie classic forever linked to his concert at Berlin’s Reichstag – which inspired the Fall of the Berlin Wall two years later.
Join me for this edition of ‘Vintage Favourites’ this Sunday, June 6th from 2:00 to 4:30pm.
