I am so pleased to welcome back my old pal and former co-host Mike Filey – Toronto historian, author, broadcaster and Sunday Sun columnist (‘The Way We Were’) – as my guest on the next ‘Vintage Favourites’. It’s Toronto’s ‘birthday’ coming up on March 6th – that’s the day, in 1834, that we were incorporated as a city. I can’t think of a better person to regale us with stories of our city’s past – how we got from a frontier fort (Fort York), to the 4th largest city in North America, and one of the world’s most diverse cities.

Mike will tell us about the roots of our city, how we recovered from a disastrous fire that destroyed much of our old downtown, how we dug up our main thoroughfare (Yonge Street) to build our first subway, and a couple of colourful local personalities: the Boyd Gang leader Edwin Boyd, and the first person to swim across Lake Ontario, Marilyn Bell.

I’ll add some amazing songs about Toronto, and several by Toronto artists – this is a show I don’t want you to miss, so plan to join Mike Filey and me for ‘The Toronto Edition’ of Vintage Favourites this Sunday at 2pm., on Zoomer Radio.
