As summer is about to wrap up with the long Labour Day Weekend, I’ve got our annual tradition – ‘The Work Songs Edition’ – ready once again. There is such a rich tradition in pop music about workplace songs – dating back to Al Jolson’s hilarious ‘I’ve Got My Captain Working for Me Now’, and then the union-organizing songs of Pete Seeger, and so many others through the decades.
From the farmers’ fields to the mines, the long-haul truckers, dockworkers, and armies of office staff … there have been wonderful songs about them all – and more. So, please set aside a couple hours – call it an ‘afternoon coffee break’ (slightly extended) – this Sunday afternoon, to enjoy ‘The Labour Day Work Songs Edition’ of Vintage Favourites on Zoomer Radio.
