A Few Thoughts as we Approach the Anniversary of Elvis' Death...

Every year when early August rolls around, I know I’ll be doing a show about Elvis, approaching the August 16th anniversary of his death in 1977. It’s both a duty and a privilege – having lived during the exciting decades that he helped create, and working all of my life with the music that just wouldn’t be the same without him.  After last year’s major 40th anniversary, I’d like to do something a bit different.  I’ve researched ‘all-things-Elvis’ to come up with ‘at least ten things you didn’t know’ – perhaps more – about ‘The King of Rock’n’Roll’  You might call it a Vintage Favourites archive-dive into ‘Presley Trivia’ this Sunday afternoon from 2-3pm.

Let me show you a couple snapshots from my visit to Graceland a few years ago.  There’s Elvis’ grave marker in the Meditation Garden behind the mansion, and a pic of your’s truly with my girlfriend Trudy, out front. We’re both huge Elvis fans – heck, we met at ‘Elvis-Fest’ in Collingwood 9 years ago, and we’ve returned every year since. If you’re a fan of The King, I’m pretty sure you’ve visited the festival by now, and I also urge you to see Graceland, and tour Memphis – at least once in your life.

There’s another notable anniversary on the very same August 16th which I often overlook in the attention paid to Elvis. And that’s Madonna’s birthday. The often-called ‘Queen of Pop’ is turning 60 this August. So, I thought it only right to tip our hat to the lady who changed modern pop music almost as much as Elvis did in the 50s.
I hope you’ll join me for this double-celebration on Vintage Favourites this Sunday (12th) from 2:00 to 4:30, on Zoomer Radio. Cheers, er, ‘Thank you very much.’
