A Fall Holiday - Nice !

Have you ever taken a holiday in the fall ?  I have never.  After our student years, we get working, and in my case, that was in radio. In the “old days”, the regular radio ratings surveys were always done in the fall and in the spring – eventually they were added in summer and winter as well, and today they’re year-round.  But “back in the day”, it was almost impossible for a radio personality, or even a program director (like me) to take time off during the all-important fall ratings period.

Then there are the children and school, so a September/October holiday was never possible for me – until now.  Things are done differently with radio ratings now – year-round, as I mentioned; my kids are grown up, so I’m taking my first-ever Fall vacation !

My love and I will be driving to the Boston/Cape Cod area, then on to New York, and Atlantic City and even Washington DC.  Should be fun.

I’ve recorded my weekend shows well ahead of time – so you won’t miss me !   Here’s a little preview of my upcoming “Vintage Favourites” programs (Sundays 2-4pm.):

This Sunday I’ll conclude that 2-part countdown of the Top 50 Hits of The Vintage Era – great songs that were the biggest of the ‘big’ and “best of the best’.

Next Sunday, October 3rd, I’ll put the spotlight on classic songs of the ‘vintage era’ that never hit the top – these will all be songs you could swear were #1, but in fact, they each peaked at #2 on the official Billboard chart.  You’ll scratch your head and wonder just how these great songs missed the mark… but each one (like “Stardust“, or “Can’t Help Falling in Love“) are classics, peaking at #2 !!

Then on Thanksgiving Sunday, October 10th – a real treat for John Lennon fans.  John would have turned 70 on october 9th, so I’ve put together a 2-hour special salute to this creative genius, including his Beatles years as well as the solo Lennon. Among the ‘audio highlights’ will be the very first recording by John and The Quarrymen from 1957, and the latest, just-released, version of ‘Starting Over’ with a new mix and a fresh sound.  Don’t miss this show – Sunday/10th 2-4pm.

Lots more going on at AM 740 of course – check on us on-line of course, and on-air too. If you have any reception problems with AM because you’re in a tall building, or near streetcar wires, or whatever – you have two other ways to listen to us. On-line, we’re broadcasting in stereo to the world at www.am740.ca,. and in Ontario we are on Rogers Cable at Channel 949.  If you have a friend or relative you’ve talked to about AM 740, and the issue of reception comes up, please tell him or her about these good alternatives.

Have yourself a wonderful start of fall, turn of the month into October and of course a happy Thanksgiving too.  Cheers.
