It’s all about consolidation.
The Ford government has announced plans to merge six agencies and 14 Local Health Integration Networks (LHINS) into a super agency that will be known as ”Ontario Health”.
Those six agencies are Cancer Care Ontario, eHealth Ontario, Trillium Gift of Life Network, Health Shared Services, Health Quality Ontario , HealthForce Ontario Marketing and Recruitment Agency.
The president of Ontario Medical Association, Dr. Nadia Alam told Zoomer Radio’s ”Fight Back” with Libby Znaimer, that the OMA’s excited by the move.
”Service integration is something we’ve been advocating for for a long time.  And this is the first step towards bringing all the pieces of the healthcare system together in a more holistic way to better serve Ontario patients and their families,” according to Alam.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says the overhaul of the $60-billion system will start in the spring, but that it will take years for it ”to become mature.”
