‘The Swing Era’ was one of history’s most exciting decades, during which big bands transformed jazz into mass-appeal, dance-pop.
They helped pull us out of the Great Depression, sustained us during a world-war, and eventually launched the next generation of superstar vocalists.
Most music historians agree ‘The Swing Era’ was born August 21st, 1935, during Benny Goodman’s concert at The Palomar Ballroom in Los Angeles. Gene Stevens will tell you why, and play some of the greatest hits by the top big bands, on this 77th anniversary salute to that historic day.
Join Gene Stevens for Vintage Favourites this Sunday at 2, from Zoomer Radio, AM 740.
