Surf City‘ went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys wrote the first draft. He gave that to Jan Berry and Dean Torrence who finished writing the song and recorded it. Brian Wilson sang background vocals on the track. 

After moving to Huntington Beach, California, Dean helped to get the town officially nicknamed “Surf City.”
