TAXPAYER-FUNDED ADS STIRRING THINGS UP AT QUEEN’S PARK

The opposition at Queen’s Park claims the taxpayer-funded hydro reduction ads put the Liberal government in contempt of parliament. Both the Progressive Conservatives and NDP say the radio and social media ads are only meant to boost the popularity of a party sagging in the polls. PC house leader Jim Wilson says the ads are running before legislation to implement the changes has been introduced, an alleged breach of parliamentary rules. Wilson calls the ads a clear case of electioneering by the Liberals using taxpayer dollars. Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault says the government has spent less than one-million dollars on the ads. Thibeault says the government just wants to make sure everyone knows about the 25 per cent reduction that’s coming.
