UNITED NATIONS ARCHITECT DIES

The man who helped design the United Nations Headquarters in New York has died.

Oscar Niemeyer was 104.

The Brazilian architect also designed his country’s capital city, Brazlia.

Niemeyer once said, “I am attracted to free-flowing, sensual curves.” And that was reflected in his designs.

Beside designing buildings around the world, Niemeyer’s greatest influence was in his home country. He helped to design the Brazilian capital city that was planned from the foundations up.

In 1988, he won the Pritzker Prize. It’s considered the Nobel Prize of architecture.

Oscar Niemeyer had been suffering from kidney ailments and pneumonia for the past month.
