TORONTO POLICE TOLD ITS BUDGET WILL BE FROZEN

A message to the Toronto police department: don’t expect any more money.

That message comes from the City’s budget chief. Mike del Grande is serving notice that the Toronto Police Services will have to police the streets of Toronto next year with the same amount as this year, about $934-million.

Police Chief Bill Blair is warning he won’t be able to keep costs down without taking officers off the streets. But del Grande says nobody knows whether Toronto needs the number of officers it has on the streets now. He’s calling for an independent review to determine precisely how many cops Toronto needs on the beat.
