The city wants out of the business of running day care spaces.
The chair of the mayor’s Task Force on Child care says he will recommend that Toronto hand over control of its 53 child care centres to the province.
Giorgio Mammoliti says school boards should run these programs.
The recommendation is expected to be contained a report to be released Thursday.
Mammoliti says the report will explore a variety of options, including public-private partnerships.
When asked if this meant we could be seeing a Fisher Price Daycare, Mammoliti said that is exactly what is being considered.
The York West City Councillor’s comments were foreshadowed last November, when the Mayor-s task force declared the city needs 123 million dollars to stabilize the system.
