Some zoomers can call themselves SuperAgers. A new study suggests their brains are just as sharp as people 20 or 30 years their junior.
Researchers at Northwestern University in Chicago selected participants from a pool of 80-somethings who scored well on tests of cognitive function and brain tissue.
Compared to other people their age, the SuperAgers appear to have a thicker cortex, which is the outer layer of the brain important for memory, attention and other mental processing abilities.
Scientists continuing their research into this group haven’t yet identified a common lifestyle among the SuperAgers.
But one SuperAger says she does crossword puzzles, takes university courses, loves to travel and has a glass of wine every day.
