SECURITY INCREASED FOR TORONTO’S CARIBBEAN CARNIVAL

Organizers of Toronto’s annual Caribbean Carnival are increasing security for this year’s events.

Following a number of shootings in the city recently, organizers have decided to be extra cautious at an event that has seen its own share of violence in the past. Spectators at the grandstand for this year’s parade on the August long weekend will be searched. Organizers say it’s an attempt to make spectators feel more secure during the parade.

Concerns over security also caused the cancellation of a festival of reggae and world music at Yonge-Dundas Square the same weekend.
