The McGuinty Government has reached a new labour deal with francophone teachers.
Now the Ontario premier is urging other unions to come back to the table and reach an agreement that includes a wage freeze.
He says politicians have frozen their pay and teachers need to share the pain to eliminate the deficit.
Teachers and their school boards must still reach local agreements, and McGuinty says if they don’t, his government is prepared to do it through legislation.
That was the theme echoed by Education Minister Laurel Broten today after announcing that the the Toronto District Catholic School board had accepted the deal reached by English Catholic Teachers.
School resumes on Tuesday September 4th.
Representatives with the teachers unions have said regardless of a deal, teachers will be in the classrooms.
