Economists believe the period of low interest rates will continue since inflation didn’t budge in September.
Statistics Canada reports inflation stayed at 1.2 per cent, matching a two-year low also achieved in August and May of this year.
Perhaps the most eye-catching result was that core inflation — which measures underlying price pressures by excluding volatile items such as gasoline and some seasonal foods, dropped three-tenths of a point to 1.3 per cent.
That was below the Bank of Canada’s call for the third quarter.
