It was a pledge of up to 50-thousand dollars in matching funds from the Honey Family Foundation that saved the High Park Zoo from shutting its gates, after budget considerations last year forced Toronto City Council to cut its 227-thousand dollar subsidy.
Now, the Group, Friends of the High Park Zoo, is coming to the iconic zoo’s rescue.
Councillor, Sarah Doucette is a member. Her Parkdale-High Park ward includes the zoo.
Doucette tells AM740 that the Zoo has been a favourite with Zoomers for a long time.
Doucette says fund raising efforts have collected over 180-thousand dollars since February 1st.
The councillor says another fundraiser is planed for Thursday, September 20 at Sunnyside Pavillion called; the Peacock Gala & Silent Auction.
