FINAL NORA EPHRON PLAY MAY BE HEADED FOR BROADWAY

A television producer says he is committed to staging a new play by the late Nora Ephron on Broadway.

Ephron died of leukemia on Tuesday at the age of 71. Her latest play, “Lucky Guy”, is a biography of New York newspaper columnist Mike McAlary. He won a Pulitzer Prize in 1998 for his coverage of police brutalization of a Haitian man. McAlary died of colon cancer the same year at the age of 41.

Producer Colin Callendar says staging Ephron’s play would be a “fitting tribute to her extraordinary writing”.

There were reports earlier this year that Tom Hanks was in negotiations to play McAlary. There is no confirmation of his involvement, or a timeline on the production.

Colin Callendar is the former head of HBO Films. He oversaw such acclaimed productions as “John Adams,” ”The Pacific,” ”Empire Falls” and “Recount.”
