EUROPEAN UNION AWARDED NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

The European Union could use a little good news these days as it struggles to manage a financial crisis that threatens to unravel the 60-year-old alliance.

And it got some this morning.

The EU has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for six decades of contributions “to the advancement of peace and reconciliation, democracy and human rights in Europe.”

The EU joins a list of recent recipients who include US President Barack Obama, former Vice-President Al Gore, The International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations and Kofi Anan, and Doctors Without Borders.
