CANADA WINS BRONZE IN WOMEN’S SOCCER

Canada’s women’s soccer team has won the bronze medal at the London Olympics.

Following a heart-breaking and controversial loss to the US in the semi-final match on Monday, the Canadian women defeated France when Diana Matheson scored the game’s only goal in the 92nd minute of play.

After the game, team captain Christine Sinclair told CTV much of the credit goes to their coach, John Herdman.  She says he invigorated them after the World Cup to believe they could beat any team.

The bronze marks the country’s first Summer Games medal in a traditional team sport since a silver in men’s basketball in 1936.

The victory gives Canada 15 medals at the London Games.
