Sources say the Toronto Blue Jays have pulled off one of the biggest trades in baseball history.
And the team is sending a signal that it’s willing to pay to become a contender again.
Insiders say the Jays have made a blockbuster trade with the Miami Marlins. All-star shortstop Jose Reyes is heading to Toronto, along with pitchers Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson.
The Jays are giving up shortstops Yunel Escobar and Adeiny Hechavarria as well as pitcher Henderson Alvarez.
A total of twelve players are said to be involved in the deal. The acquisitions would see the Jays’ payroll jump from $70,000,000 to $120,000,000 or more.
The deal is expected to be formally announced today.
