A Spectacular Opening

The opening ceremonies for the London Olympics ran 45 minutes beyond its scheduled three hours, but you can never get too much of a good show.

The Queen and James Bond gave the Olympics a royal entrance like no other in a ceremony that rocked and rolled to the music of the Beatles, the Stones and The Who.

The highlight of the 42-million-dollar show was the trickery that made it seem that the Queen had parachuted into the stadium with Britain’s most famous secret agent.

Sir Paul McCartney led a singalong of “Hey Jude” to close the show, while triathlete Simon Whitfield was Canada’s flagbearer.
