Sir Ian McKellen was among the winners last night in London at the Laurence Olivier Awards which celebrate the best of the London stage.
McKellen is best known for playing Gandalf the Gray in “The Lord Of the Rings.”
McKellen won his seventh Olivier for a one-man show that he staged in 80 theatres across England to mark his 80th birthday.
”Fleabag” star Andrew Scott was named best actor in a play for Noel Coward’s ”Present Laughter.”
Sharon D. Clarke won the best-actress prize for Arthur Miller’s ”Death of a Salesman.”
The award show was deemed a bittersweet event since U-K theatres are still shuttered by the pandemic.
