Hamilton police say a second man has been arrested and will face a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Tim Bosma.

The 32-year-old father was killed after going on a test drive with two men on May 6 in a truck he posted for sale online.

Bosma’s body was later found burned beyond recognition on a farm belonging to one of the suspects.

About an hour before a memorial service for Bosma started today in Hamilton, the police arrested Mark Smich, a 25-year-old man from Oakville.

Police say he is one of the men who went on the test drive and is to appear in court Thursday in Hamilton where he’ll face a charge of first-degree murder.

A Toronto man, 27-year-old Dellen Millard, is already facing charges of first-degree murder, forcible confinement and theft of a vehicle.

It’s cost him his volunteer job as a high school football coach, but it’s still an open question whether allegations of cocaine use, will cost Mayor Rob Ford his day job.

Today, Toronto’s Catholic school board removed Ford as head football coach at Etobicoke’s Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School saying it has decided to pursue a different direction with a new volunteer.

Ford has had a decade-long affiliation with the team that has brought him personal joy and political praise as well as criticism.

Last November Ford was forced to defend his attendance record during three days of city council meetings when he was accused of skipping out to coach the team.

An examination of attendance records showed he had been absent less frequently than 21 councillors, more frequently than 23.

Today demands continue from all sides for Ford to comment on the drug-use allegations.

But his brother Councillor Doug Ford made it clear today that the Mayor will not be rushed.

The reports of drug use have not been verified and Ford has called them ridiculous.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper says he did not know about - nor was he asked to sign off on - the arrangement that saw his chief of staff, Nigel Wright cut a personal cheque for 90-thousand dollars to Senator, Mike Duffy.

The Prime Minister also says he would not have allowed Wright – who has since resigned – to give the money to Duffy had he known about it.

It’s the first time Harper himself has directly answered questions about the Senate expenses scandal since news of the payment surfaced last week.

The payment allowed Duffy to stop co-operating with an external audit of his expenses which has since been referred back to a Senate committee for review.

The arrangement between Duffy and Wright is also under investigation by the federal ethics commissioner.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford still isn’t saying much about allegations that a cellphone video appears to show him smoking crack cocaine, but Doug Ford says his brother has told him the reports are untrue and he believes him.

Doug Ford insisted at a news conference today that Rob Ford has already addressed the allegations by calling them “ridiculous.”

He also called on the media to stop “harassing” members of his family, saying never before has a mayor been so zealously targeted.

Rob Ford dismissed the allegations on Friday as a Toronto Star smear job, but has not commented since then so reporters have been following him to try to get him to talk.

U.S.-based website Gawker and the Star separately reported on Thursday that a drug dealer was shopping around a cellphone video that appeared to show Ford smoking crack.

The publications said their staff had viewed the footage and taken notes about its contents, but neither had purchased the video.

Supporters and opponents of Toronto’s mayor are urging him to address the alleged video that claims to show him smoking crack cocaine.

Ford took part in the debate that saw Toronto reject a casino yesterday, but he avoided reporters’ questions on the allegations.

Deputy Mayor Doug Holyday says he has heard that the Mayor is keeping silent on the advice of lawyers. But he is joining others in calling for the mayor to address the issue.

The only comment Ford has made was to call the story “ridiculous” when it first surfaced late last week.

The story has been great fodder for late-night TV shows in the United States. Both John Stewart and Jimmy Kimmel aired segments on the story.

Two Toronto Star reporters and the U.S. based website gawker.com claim to have seen the video which allegedly shows Rob Ford smoking crack and making anti-gay slurs about Justin Trudeau and racist comments about members of the high school football team he coaches.

Germany is celebrating the 200th anniversary of one of its great composers

A monument to Richard Wagner will be unveiled today in the composer’s birthplace of Leipzig.

Wagner’s name conjures up conflicting emotions. While his compositions are hailed as sublime works of art that belong to the core canon of Western culture ….. his racism and anti-Semitism have linked him with the regime of his admirer Adolph Hitler.

The monument by German artist Stephan Balkenhol shows a young Wagner overshadowed by his older, famous self.

Some of Wagner’s works will be performed later today in Bayreuth, home to an annual music festival run by the Richard Wagner Foundation.

On Parliament Hill, Conservative Senators have rejected an attempt by Liberals for a police investigation of Mike Duffy’s improperly-claimed housing expenses.

Instead, the Senate voted to send the matter back to the same internal senate committee that reviewed the expenses in the first place.

During question period last night in the Senate, Marjory LeBreton, the Conservative leader in the chamber, recalled what fellow senator David Tkachuk said about the impact the expense claim scandal has had on the upper chamber, and the Harper government. “This is a crisis. There’s no doubt about it. And I have every confidence that the internal economy committee, once a report is referred back to it, will be seized absolutely of the task at hand.”

The federal ethics commissioner has also confirmed that she is examining the role played by the prime minister’s former chief of staff in helping to pay back $90-thousand in expense claims made by Senator Duffy.

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne received the gift of political life on her 60th birthday yesterday. NDP leader Andrea Horwath has agreed to support the minority Liberals’ budget averting a June election. Susan Eng is the Vice President of Advocacy for CARP – a New Vision of Aging. She tells Zoomer Media News, there are certainly some benefits for older Ontarians in this budget, including “an increase in home care funding. And that’s going to help a lot of people look after their loved ones at home. The 15 percent reduction in insurance rates is of course, welcome, although we would argue that should also end the discriminatory rates that are charged to people over the age of 80. And of course, we were interested to see that the government is still going to press ahead with enhancing C.P.P., although they didn’t make it a precondition going ahead with the enabling legislation for P.R.P.P.s, the pooled registered pension plans.”

Had a budget deal not been reached, the minority Liberals would have been toppled in a non-confidence vote, triggering an election. Premier Wynne’s concessions to the New Democrats include a new $2.5 million Financial Accountability Office, modeled on the federal parliamentary budget officer. P.C. leader Tim Hudak meantime, warned the NDP could pay politically for propping up a “corrupt” Liberal government.

The Toronto Port Authority is putting off plans to fill in an area of Lake Ontario near Billy Bishop Airport because it’s unclear if the material would be able to support a proposed runway extension.

Porter Airlines is trying to extend the runway at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport by 168 metres at each end to allow for the use of jets.

Porter announced in April that it had placed a conditional order for 12 Bombardier CS100 jets that would allow the airline to fly to Los Angeles, Florida, Calgary and the Caribbean.

The plan has faced vocal opposition from community leaders and several Toronto city councillors.

The port authority was already planning to fill in an 80-by-100-metre portion of the lake to prevent boats from entering an area called the marine exclusion zone.

However, the environmental assessment completed by the port authority last year didn’t take into account the possibility that the fill material might have to support a runway extension.
