Where did it go ? Summer’s gone with the dog days of August and even the EX now just memories. I hope you had a good summer – you sure couldn’t complain about the weather – unless you don’t much like “hot and muggy” – and I know some folks don’t. Me – if it gets too hot, I just think of January – immediate relief !
I’m a big fan of the EX – I’ve gone every year of my life – and once again I went – twice in fact. I had some terrific beef ribs and corn-on-the-cob, by the Bandshell, then endured a bit of rain, while waiting for the Drifters and Gloria Gaynor. Both acts were great, but as is the practice nowadays, they didn’t bring a live band, but sang to recorded instrumental tracks. “Murphy” was at the concert too – so you just know something had to go wrong – sure enough the darn CD player, or whatever they’re using, messed up near the end of BOTH performances – forcing both acts to look awkward, make apologies, and sing accapela for awhile before finishing. To their credit, both the Drifters and Gaynor were real pros and struggled through, but I really felt sorry for them. If you get the chance to see them anywhere – do it – they’re excellent.
Now, let me tell you about this weekend’s ‘Vintage Favourites’ – I’ve invited Toronto’s “rockabilly expert” – DJ Dave Faris – to join me for a 2-hour salute to Rockabilly Music. If you like that style, you just can’t miss this show – Sunday 2-4pm. (Sep.12th) (Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Carl Perkins, Delmore Brothers, Wanda Jackson, Buddy Holly, Charlie Feathers – are you salivating yet ?)
Something else that has ME salivating – is TIFF – I’m a huge movie-buff, and love checking out some new movies at the Toronto Int’l Film Festival. Thanks to my daughters who figure out our movie choices and jump thru all the necessary hurdles every year, we have another fistful of tickets to see some great flicks starting this weekend. I’m also looking forward to the new venue – the Bell Lightbox, and the opportunity to watch TIFF movies all year round !
So maybe we’ll see some movie stars this week ? Have you thought what you’d say to Clint Eastwood if you happened to bump into him on the street – it could happen ! See ya.
